Glens Falls Golden EaglesWhether it’s hawking merchandise in the stands, coordinating the on-field gameday promotions, distributing pocket schedules, selling advertising and fund raising, the Glens Falls Golden Eagles Baseball Team needs support from the community to survive this season and those in the future. Tonight marks the Glens Falls Golden Eagles first road game of the 2009 summer season as they head south to play the Albany Dutchmen at Bleecker Stadium.

In case you can’t make it down to Albany for the game tonight, don’t worry the fine folks over at TEAMLINE have got you covered. Following this link to listen live to an Internet broadcast of all Glens Falls Golden Eagles games, whether home or away. During home games, we even offered streaming video!

The Glens Falls Golden Eagles lost to the Saratoga Phillies, a team they defeated 10 times last season and lost none, in the teams’  2009 home opener at East Field. In front of 840 cheering fans, the Golden Eagles managed one hit for the entire. As a team they totalled five walks, including three in the final two innings. teamline_sm

Senior Siena Saints catcher Gary DerHagopian’s sacrifice fly in bottom of the second scored sophomore first basemen Nate Valdez to cut the Saratoga lead down to three runs after several defensive mishaps allowed the Phillies to plate three unearned runs. Of the Golden Eagles seven base runners last night, five of them made it to second base, yet only one came across to score.

The Albany Duthchmen, formally the Bennington Bombers lost their first game of the season last night to the Watertown Wizards by a score of 13-12.

With both Albany and Glens Falls still looking to scribble a crooked number down in the win column, this game should not be missed by fans of the Golden Eagles and wood-bat baseball in general.

Glens Falls won five of the team’s seven matchups against Albany (Bennington) last season; however, they lost their last 2008 game against them 10-7.

The Golden Eagles return home this weekend for games on Saturday and Sunday. Watertown heads to East Field on Saturday for a 7 p.m. start and Saratoga returns on Sunday for a 4 p.m. start.

Come show your support for the Golden Eagles. Tickets remain five bucks a pop.
